Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals come with a comprehensive Rental Agreement that you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This document outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, applicable charges, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will take priority.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle with us requires:
- To rent a vehicle from Bathgate Car Hire, drivers must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type. A valid full driving license for the applicable vehicle category is required, along with proof of identity and current address. Valid payment details and a security deposit must also be provided, alongside any specific conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, by phone, or directly at our Bathgate office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The remaining balance and a security deposit are generally required upon vehicle pick-up. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where relevant. We accept major credit and debit cards, with transactions processed securely through trusted payment partners.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, you are required to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be created and must be signed by both parties. When returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as when it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and associated charges will apply. The vehicle should also be returned with the same level of fuel as at collection; refueling fees will be charged if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may result in extra charges, so please inform us as soon as possible if you anticipate returning the vehicle later than scheduled. You will be held responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during your rental period, in addition to an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. You can find comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to minimize your financial liability. It's advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain accountable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount unless mitigated by additional insurance. Responsibility for damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms falls solely on you, regardless of insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on your booking type and the notice provided. Please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement for precise information. Charges may apply for late cancellations or no-shows.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Your Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities, including racing, rallying, or off-roading. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or allowing unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, exceeding passenger or weight limits, and operating outside designated geographical boundaries without prior approval are also strictly prohibited.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
8. Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Bathgate Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not surpass the amount you paid for rental within the last 12 months. This exclusion does not apply to liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or fraud.
Governing Law in Bathgate
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the relevant courts in this region.
Updates to Terms
We can update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect as soon as they are posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
