Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement presented during booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This agreement outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance information, charges, and your obligations related to the rental. In cases of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the latter will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To hire a vehicle from Bathgate Car Hire, drivers must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle selected, with potential extra fees for those under 25. A valid, full driving license is required, along with identification and proof of current address. Payment details and a security deposit must also be provided, and any extra conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement should be met.
3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Bathgate office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The total payment and security deposit are generally required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment systems.
4. Car Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is your responsibility to conduct a thorough inspection and promptly report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed to document its state. Please return the vehicle in the same condition as when it was collected, acknowledging normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may incur additional charges. Ensure the fuel level matches what it was at the time of collection; a fee will apply for insufficient fuel upon return. If you anticipate a delay in returning the vehicle, please notify us as soon as possible, as late returns may result in extra charges. You will be held accountable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges that arise during your rental, along with a processing fee.
Insurance and Liability Coverage
- Basic third-party insurance is included with every vehicle rental from Bathgate Car Hire. Comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts can be found in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may help lower your financial liability, so review these options closely. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount, unless you opt for added insurance. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows could incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rented Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or other risky pursuits is prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials is also not allowed. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is strictly forbidden. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is unacceptable. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purposes and within specified passenger and weight limits. Additionally, operating the vehicle outside of the agreed geographical boundaries requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Bathgate Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount paid in the past 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraudulent activities.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Scotland. Disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of Scottish courts.
10. Updates to Terms
Bathgate Car Hire reserves the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon posting on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
